January

Coming-of-Age Day Ceremony (January) — Sogo-Bunka Center Hall
A ceremony of celebration as hopeful young people who are 20 years of age take their first step into adulthood.
 

February

Ikazuchi no Daihannya (February) — Near Shinzoin Temple
During this festival, young men dressed in long white kimono undergarments run from house to house to chase away evil spirits.
 

March to April

Cherry Blossom Festival (March to April), Komatsugawa Promenade with 1,000 Cherry Trees, Komatsugawa-Sakaigawa Shinsui Park, near the riverbank at the Edogawa floodgate, and other locations
Enjoy the cherry blossoms in full bloom with your friends and family.
 

May

Flower Festival (May) — Shishibone Sports Square
This flower festival is exclusive to Edogawa City, and has earned it the nickname “Tokyo Flower Town.”
 

June

Environmental Fair (June) — Sogo-Bunka Center Hal
This event is an opportunity for people to reconsider the importance of the environment and preserve it for the future.

Koiwa Iris Garden Festival (June) — Koiwa Iris Garden
The Japanese iris blooms vividly in early summer. The garden boasts a total of 50,000 blooms of 100 different kinds of irises.

Banner Festival (Sengen-jinja Shrine)

Banner Festival (June) — Sengen-jinja Shrine
Ten large banners over 20 meters in height are set up. This event is held once every two years.

 

July

Shishi Lion Festival (July) — Around Shinozakimachi 1 & 2-chome
Performers wear a headdress in the shape of a “shishi,” an imaginary lionlike beast, visiting the entrance to each household and praying for the well-being of the community.

Goldfish Festival (July) — Gyosen Park
This festival is exclusive to Edogawa City, famous as a home for goldfish. Many kinds of rare goldfish are on display.

 

August

Fireworks Festival
Fireworks Festival (August) — Edogawa Dry Riverbed
A festival of lights and sounds as bursting flowers weave across the evening sky.
 

October-November

Citizens’ Festival (October) — Shinozaki Park
With the theme “Widen and Broaden Your Circle of Friends and Smiles,” this is the largest event in Edogawa City.

Yogo Chrysanthemum Exhibition (October-November) — Zenyo-ji Temple
Chrysanthemums are sculpted into various shapes for this festival.

 

December

Ice Festival (December) — Sports Land
Enjoy a spectacular skating show and a variety of different games.
