Schools
The school year for elementary and junior high schools in Japan begins in April. Compulsory education includes elementary school for children ages six to 12, and junior high school for children ages 12 to 15. Since foreign residents may transfer or enroll their children in municipal schools if they so desire, please call for consultation.
The childs foreign resident registration card (the blue booklet-type) is required.

Kindergartens
There are six municipal kindergartens in the city. Any child who is 4 or 5 years of age and lives in the city with his/her parents or guardians is eligible for enrollment. Applications for admission are accepted in November for the school year beginning in April of the following year.

* Subsidy programs are available for parents/guardians with children in private kindergartens (currently 39 kindergartens). For admission application, please call the private kindergarten you are interested in.

Nursery Schools
Nursery schools are facilities that take care of children whose parents cannot look after them during the day for reasons such as employment or sickness. Currently, there are 53 municipal and 28 private nursery schools in the city.
