When a traffic accident occurs, be sure to report it to the police (dial 110), no matter how slight the case may be. If anyone is injured, call for an ambulance (dial 119).
Pay attention to the following points before the police arrive:
- Make a note of the license plate number of the other car involved.
- Ask the other driver to show you his/her drivers license and automobile liability insurance card. Make sure that the photo on the drivers license is that of the driver. Make a note of the name, address and age of the other driver.
- Make notes summarizing the details of the accident. If there is a witness, ask him/her to cooperate by giving a statement.
- If you are injured, however slight the case may appear to be, make sure that you go see a doctor for a medical examination.
- Do not make simple promises or negotiate with the other driver.
- Contact your car insurance company.
